I would say avoid as many of them as possible: you made plans already, you are meeting a friend/another foreigner to talk about work, have diarrhea, whatever. Unless you love to drink soju… don’t go. There is only one or two I might suggest going to and those are the sports day dinners with the high school since you can go and talk to another foreigner and you aren’t alone. The food is not worth the free time taken away from you. The Korean teachers don’t even want to go and will use various excuses not to; it is a burden on them as well. They generally have to show up though because not showing up is akin to falling out of favor with your boss. They pretty much have to go, you don’t.
